VirtualSC is proud to announce that Latin teacher and World Languages Team Leader, Dr. Tracy Seiler, is the recipient of the 2015 SC Foreign Language Teachers Association (SCFLTA) Teacher of the Year award!  The SCFLTA selected Dr. Seiler as their 2015 recipient because of her dedication to her profession and her advocacy for language learning.

Dr. Seiler holds a PhD in Ancient History, a Master’s Degree in Roman and Medieval History and a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History and Psychology.  She is currently licensed in Latin Education and History and holds six endorsements in the Advanced Placement and gifted and talented areas.  Dr. Seiler is a member of six professional organizations and has presented on a number of topics pertaining to Latin education and online teaching, including her two most recent presentations at the 2015 SCFLTA conference.

At the state level, Dr. Seiler has served on numerous world language committees: standards, assessment of world language programs, and teacher evaluation. She has facilitated and modeled the shift to performance-based instruction and assessment.

A member of the VirtualSC faculty since 2010, Dr. Seiler’s work with the program has been invaluable.  In addition to serving as a teacher and team leader, she has worked to develop and revise courses all of the program’s Latin courses and mentor new teachers.  In 2012, she was selected as VirtualSC’s nominee for the South Regional Education Board’s National Online Teacher of the Year Award, for which she was chosen as a finalist.

VirtualSC staff and students praise Dr. Seiler as an outstanding online Latin teacher. Trixi DeRosa-Davis, her colleague, states: “Dr. Seiler is truly dedicated to the profession of teaching world languages.  She works diligently to stay abreast of world language pedagogy and methodology.  Her students receive excellent instruction in their Latin courses primarily because Dr. Seiler is devoted to teaching and her students.” According to her students, she is an “extraordinary teacher who embodies the best the profession has to offer – traditional or online.”
