Middle School Courses

The VirtualSC Middle School Program is proud to offer a variety of flexible online learning opportunities for students in grades 6-8.

VirtualSC middle school courses are designed for students who may need more flexibility to follow unique learning paths.  Whether you seek flexibility in location, scheduling or other unique challenges, VirtualSC courses may be right for you.

Our Curriculum

English Language Arts

In our ELA courses for grades 6-8, you’ll read short stories and novels, listen to music, read newspapers and learn how to create stories of your own. Express yourself and improve your critical thinking and communication skills.

**Advanced work option in grades 6 and 7.

Math

In our Math courses for grades 6-8, you’ll demonstrate your knowledge of number manipulation in real-world scenarios. Gain a true understanding of higher-level concepts such as functions and systems of equation.

Science

In our Science courses for grades 6-8, you’ll expand your scientific journey as you examine facts and events to understand the natural world. Focus on the main science content areas of life, physical, and earth and space sciences through discovery.

Social Studies

In our Social Studies courses for grades 6-8, you’ll explore the history, experiences, achievements and struggles of cultures and individuals from South Carolina to the other side of the globe. Gain a deeper appreciation of people, places and events in the world around us.

Exploratory

In our exploratory courses for grades 6-8*, you’ll expand your knowledge, discover and explore new interests, and begin building your unique learning path to college and career readiness. Courses vary in topics so explore our offerings each semester for a course that interests you.

*VirtualSC middle school level courses do not carry weight for high school credit. Some middle grade students may be eligible for advanced enrollment in VirtualSC high school credit courses. See your school sponsor for appropriate placement.


Note: Only rising 9th graders are eligible for the high-school physical education course.

  • Finish on pace at the end of the semester.

*Students taking both Semester 1 and Semester 2 of a course with VirtualSC will receive two course grade reports. The final course grade is to be determined by the sponsoring school or homeschool.

Learning at VirtualSC is asynchronous, which means you can access our courses anywhere, anytime.

Learn Anywhere

With an internet connection, you can attend class anywhere.  Whether you are in a school computer lab, on the road, or at the kitchen counter; your course is just a click away.  VirtualSC students enjoy the freedom to work from any location.

Learn Anytime

You can submit work any time of the day.  Teachers are available for conferencing during office hours, but VirtualSC courses are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week during enrollment.  VirtualSC students build a personalized daily schedule.

Learning for Anybody

VirtualSC is open to all eligible public, private, and homeschool students.  Placement is determined by the sponsor.  The most successful online learners are motivated to learn and have regular access to supportive school staff and guardians.
