VirtualSC honors Heather Vassey, Mathematics Lead Teacher, as the 2018 VirtualSC Teacher of the Year.
A graduate of Mars Hill University and UNC-Charlotte, Heather Vassey began her career as a mechanical engineer and quickly found she had the heart for education. After 9 years in the brick and mortar classroom, in 2011, she made a transition to online teaching at VirtualSC, which she now calls home. Heather has spent the past 7 years working on developing engaging and student-friendly courses; she enjoys developing lessons enriched with personalized learning that focuses on students’ interests, passions, strengths, and needs. Additionally, Heather currently serves as the Lead Teacher for VirtualSC’s Math team. Heather resides in Huntersville, NC with her husband, Clay, and their 2.5-year-old son, Hudson. In her local community, she is involved with raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network. She considers her son, Hudson, to be a miracle child, so she loves to give back to the program that provided so much assistance and support to her family. In her downtime, Heather travels with her family, is a professional dance choreographer, and relaxes by making crafts.
