Prerequisite Policy

Course Prerequisites

VirtualSC lists prerequisites for each course on the course syllabus (found in the Course Catalog). It is the responsibility of sponsoring schools to ensure that students meet the appropriate prerequisite requirements when approving student enrollment requests. VirtualSC will not enroll students concurrently in a course and its prerequisite course (Example: Spanish 1 and Spanish 2).

Credit Recovery Prerequisites

Students seeking enrollment in a VirtualSC Credit Recovery Course must meet all eligibility requirements established by the sponsoring school district, the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy, and South Carolina H.5073 - Public School Grading.

It is the responsibility of the sponsoring school to verify that students meet all Credit Recovery eligibility requirements prior to approving enrollment for a VSC Credit Recovery course.

Content Recovery

VirtualSC Credit Recovery courses may not be used for content recovery purposes (SC UGP Page 11). Students are not eligible to enroll in a VSC Credit Recovery course solely to recover targeted content, assignments, units, standards or grading deficiencies from an active initial credit course. Content recovery for students enrolled in a VSC initial credit course is embedded within the original course and is provided by the VSC teacher of record. Consistent with South Carolina law, students must complete all required assignments for the relevant portion of the course in a manner consistent with program policies regarding the timely submission of student work to be eligible for content recovery opportunities.

Responsibility of Sponsoring Schools

Sponsoring schools are responsible for ensuring that student registrations comply with all VirtualSC prerequisites, South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy requirements, and applicable state laws. VirtualSC reserves the right to deny or withdraw enrollments that do not meet published prerequisite or eligibility requirements.
