Flex Pacing

VirtualSC will pilot the use of Flex Pacing in the 2018-19 school year. The following courses will be included in the pilot: English 2 Honors, English 3 Honors and English 4 Honors. Please read the FAQ's below for more information on the Flex Pace option.

Q: What does "Flex Pacing" mean in a VirtualSC course?

A: Flex Pacing means that a student may register for the course for the standard course duration, but may opt to complete the course in a longer or shorter course session. In the 2018-19 pilot, students may request the course in the Dashboard as a 14-week semester pace. With counselor approval, students may work with teachers to select a yearlong pace after the student has been placed in the course.

Q: What do I need to know about the process for enrolling in a Flex Pace course?

A: Students will select the course in the Dashboard in the standard pace format (this will depend on the individual course, but for the purposes of this pilot, all Flex Pace courses are assigned a standard 14-week semester pace). Once the course request has been approved by the School Counselor, and the student has been scheduled into a course section, the teacher will reach out to the student to discuss the pacing options. Once a pace has been selected by the student and teacher, the School Counselor and Parent/Guardian will be notified and a pacing guide will be provided.

Q: What if I want to switch my pace mid-course?

A: Students may request to switch the pace they originally chose at the start of the course with approval from the VirtualSC teacher and their sponsoring School Counselor.  The first step for the student to initiate this change will be to contact the teacher to request a new pace.

Q: What courses will have the Flex Pace option?

A: Flex Pacing will be run as a pilot during the 2018-19 school year, and will include English 2 Honors, English 3 Honors and English 4 Honors.

Students enrolling in one of the three Flex Pace course options (English 2 Honors, English 3 Honors or English 4 Honors) may get a head start on their reading lists by reviewing the Book/Reading Lists online.
