Common Technology Problems and Requirements

PLEASE NOTE: When downloading the browser plug-ins below, some websites may ask you to download additional software. You must choose “no” or un-check the box for the software if you do not wish to download additional content.

Browser Plug-ins — The most current versions are recommended

· Oracle Java Version 8 Update 291 ((https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)

· Acrobat Reader 11.0.10 or higher (https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/) or a Browser that opens a PDF natively

Computer Requirements

-          1+ Ghz machine, preferably running Windows 10

-          If on a MAC then Intel chip running OSX 10.9+

-          Minimum of 10 GB free HDD space

-          A broadband connection, 3+ Mb/s, is strongly recommended.

-          Windows 7, 8, 8.1 (Chrome, Firefox or Opera)

-          Windows 10 (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Opera)

-          Microsoft Office, Open Office or Google Docs/Drive (Some computer courses require Microsoft Office which will be notated within course registration)

-          1+ GB RAM, preferably 4+ GB

-          Display setting 1024×768 resolution or higher

-          Students need a method to save work to a portable/re-writable medium (USB, cloud)

-          Audio: Sound card with speakers, microphone or headset

Not able to access book

Chrome

  1. Top right, three small dots
  2. Settings
  3. Show advanced settings (at the bottom of the page)
  4. Privacy -- Clear Browsing data
  5. Obliterate the following from: the beginning of time
  6. Have all check boxes checked
  7. Clear browsing data
  8. Log back into Genius and Moodle and try the book again

Firefox

  1. Top right, three small lines
  2. Options
  3. Privacy
  4. History -- Clear your recent history
  5. Time range to clear: Everything
  6. Under Details have everything checked
  7. Clear Now
  8. Log back into Genius and Moodle and try the book again

Clear cache in Browser

Upload a file

  1. Any File Submission activity
  2. Top left corner of the File submission block, select the page with the plus sign
  3. Left side, Upload a file
  4. Attachment -- Choose file and find in whatever directory it is on your computer
  5. Save as -- key in a name for your file
  6. Upload this file -- must wait for it
  7. Save changes
